2016 Wildfire Community Preparedness Day May 7th
Make an important contribution in helping our community be better prepared for future wildfires, participate in this year’s Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 7th.
Individual or neighborhood projects that reduce wildfire risk and increase preparedness can be accomplished by a broad range of ages; and come in a variety of time commitments ranging from a few hours to an entire day. Examples include:
• Rake and remove excess pine needles and dry leaves.
• Collect downed tree limbs and take them to the roll-off dumpster.
• Trim tree branches and remove ladder fuels.
Wildfire safety also means making others aware, so gather up your friends and neighbors and come to the fire station open house between 10 – 1 for Firewise information, reflective address numbers, demonstrations, and local wildfire safety handouts. Lunch will be provided.
A roll-off dumpster will be available all day across from the fire station, this is in addition to the normal woody debris collection program that will run from May 28th – June 30th. Paper collection bags for leaves and pine needles will be available at the fire station. Call the fire station at 634-7070 for more information.
Dumping yard waste and woody debris at the Valley County Transfer Station will also be free from May 2nd – May 7th
